Race Evaluation

Canadian Orienteering Championships 2008: Middle Course 7

boyle

1. I walked straight S with little difficulty.
2. With false confidence, I left control w/o a bearing. With memories of WMOC'05, I eventually returned to control #1, took precise bearing and began compass school which would last through control #8. Take bearing and walk.
3. Take bearing and walk through GREEN.
4. I thought control was dangerously close to slippery rock.
5. I now began going round GREEN and resetting precise bearings.
6.
7. This was a long slow walk and I fell S and messed around with dummy control. I'm glad it was there to stop me.
8. I took full advantage of the water stop.
9. I could hear the chopper leaving our chalet which was in direction of this leg. I glued on to elites flying down leg to mandatory road crossing. We fell S and over long dead road embankment and then had to head back N on shoulder of highway.
10. Knowing this leg would be discounted, I was slowest Canadian in my age group crossing pavement.
11. I left shoulder of highway too early but I was so happy to be running.
12. I was fooled by a natural break in tree cover which I mistook for trail that was yet to come. I went up to yard of the inn and back down to stone.
13. I was the third fastest flying back up from the stone.
F. The mismarked circle rather than x messed up many that we watched as spectators. However, the correction was clearly signed on information sheets at start.
