Race Evaluation

WCOC Wooster Mtn Meet: Red

Charlie

1. Around right side of lake on trail to small trail heading up reentrant, then right on small trail uphill and across spur, checking off stone pile on the way. Peter Goodwin at the control.
2. +00:30Straight, checking off spur just right of line, over the top near dot knolls near trail, but went to bottom of wrong cliff first, one cliff too far S.
3. +03:30Across big reentrant, up side reentratnt and then drifted left for flatter ground and better running, planning to cut around hill and pick up top of reentrant with control, but no sign of it on the level where I was, and got in one reentrant further (the bigger rocky one), which had a big hemlock patch I thought was the green in the right reentrant, but figured it out when reentrant kept going E, and up and over through green.
4. +01:00Left of line but still too much green and footing was terrible. skirted NE side of eastern pond and straight in from there.
5. +00:30Got a little too high and had trouble climbing down.
6. Straight, hitting reentrant a little too far down.
7. Left of marsh, then ran along NS stone wall for a bit, then across spur looking for big hill with cliff. A little trouble getting down the hill to the saddle. Saw Peter Goodwin again, who must have gotten ahead of me at #3.
8. Fairly straight. Lots of features to check on the way. Stopped 50 feet to soon to check map because I didn't see the depression, but it was right there.
9. Had trouble following the line on the map. Kept heading for #7, and got near #7 before heading SW along spur, then down into saddle (to see Peter Goodwin again) and under big cliff.
10. A little bit of a fight to get around green and cliffs and big knoll, but easy to find once out in the open.
11. Took a really long time for a short leg. Lots of green, lots of being very careful on the rocks. Stopped one saddle too soon, but only briefly.
12. Around knoll on left, under cliffs same as 9-10, then straight across on compass, checking off trail, spur and stream and seeing the boulder from the stream.
13. W to the road, to the trail S, jumping off at old bridge across stream and down along the marsh.
14. Pretty much straight, across long koll and down reentrant on far side, keeping spur on my left, across marsh, under knoll and along streamlet and straight in.
15. SSW along edge of higher ground on left and marsh on right, through saddle between knolls , ehnd along marsh a bit and up reentrant across higher ground under cliffs and straight across. I was a little bit high and Jim Henderson was lower and punched first.
16. +01:30Trail would have been a good option. Fairly straight, punching through green and up and over, but drifting a little right and getting to cliff near trail on S edge of circle. Out to the trail to figure it out, and then back in, to see Jim H leaving, and then PG coming in and out quickly.
17. +00:30Behind those guys with Jim going left on trail and PG going right (or so it looked). A couple of steps right, hesitate to read, and then just down to the lake near the stone wall and around.
