West Point A-Meet: Blue day 1

1. Boring.
2. Boooring.
3. Boooooring.
4. Booring (this one was a little shorter).
5. jeez...
6. Straight up through the green, a little right at the top to avoid a couple of lines and have good features to read.
7.
8. Contoured.
9. A smidge low coming in, not quite sure what was what, but had no trouble. Passed a guy in here, he was a couple of steps ahead of me into the control.
10. Left around the lake, cut some corners. Across the dam in ankle-deep water. A lot of unmapped green going up the last hill.
11. +04:00Poor execution and bad map reading. Drifted left coming out of the control, and went S of the marsh on the N-S section of the ride. Rugged terrain on the other side, and when I got to the top of the first section of valley (where the indistinct trail ends), I mis interpreted that as being the second section, since what lay above it looked like a nasty marsh. Around to the left looked bad, so I started going around to the right, but it quickly became clear that it was too big to be the marsh shaped like a tooth, and I thought it must be the green marsh. Even though it was pointing the wrong way. So I went back around clockwise, and as I crossed just below the "marsh", I realized that it was really the white woods with a small pond depicted on the map. Straight from there.

13. +05:00Biggest error of the weekend. Managed to get myself to the circle, but then I wasn't sure which stone dome was which, and I didn't see anything unambiguously recognizable nearby on the map. The map showed a non-bare-rock hill, so that's what I was looking for, but then I looked at the clues and they said bare rock. That confused me even more. Looped back and did my approach again, found a distinctive spur, and read my way in properly the second time. I had been just a bit too far east on the first try.

16. A little low exiting the control, wound up down at the ride, and had to climb back up.
