Mine Falls Sprints: It's Pits 2

jima

1. Start just before Ernst - hope he gives me a few minutes. Take the smaller trails zig-zagging across the red line. Seems like the control is further off the trail than mapped.
2. +01:20Should have looked at route options more closely. Don't see the trail doesn't cross the stream at the powerline until I get there. Decide it looks too cold and too deep, head right. Almost try to cross on a log, but it's narrow and the water still looks cold and deep. Can see the foot bridge - go for it. Lost maybe a minute. Slog through the slush - seems deeper at this end of the map. John F coming out of 3 as I hit the trail at the end of the parking lot into 2. Lose a bit of time, 20 seconds? at the control - control is well below ground level. Go in from the tree fort.
3.
4. Can't see Ernst as I hit the SW end of the parking lot, he's either given me a lot of headstart, or he's went to the right from teh dam area into 2.
5. leaving 4, seee Ernst coming up the parking lot. Up an over the top of the hill. Enrst catches up just before the control - damn, didn't think I was moving that slow...
6. Should have gone hard right out of the control over to the trail, but angled over towards the left instead. Ernst pulling away. get onto the maintrail and heading down towards the foot bridge, when I see a UNO suit heading towards me - it's Ernst! He mutters something about "missed #4". Aha, that's how he got to #5 so fast. Continue to slog along - it's a nice day for a run, some good motivation to do some faster runnning, and the mud isn't too deep. Runnning through ths slush reminds me of walking to school as a kid and stomping down into stuff like this, trying to spray my little brothers. Takes my mind off the reality of my slowness.
F. trail run reversing the first contorl on sprint 1. Glad I have on wool blend socks rather than cotton, my feet would be ice...
