WCOC Ansonia Nature Center meet: Red

3. +04:00Not sure about the map here. I stopped short because the map showed the control ESE of the pond, and I wandered around checking cliffs for a while, even finding a control that was way south, then giving up and hitting it on my way out, where it seemed to be more due east to ENE of the pond. Nobody else had trouble, though.
4. Not a real straight route - headed generally for the marsh, then W after a while, hitting the stone wall and following it to the trail, then straight in. Susie passed me on this section.
5. Straight, and picked up a little ground on Susie.
6. Straight again, although drifting a little downhill. Had to look for it, but not much.
7. Drifted a little left and bounced off the thick marsh. Susie pulling away, and Rick and George passed here as well.
8. Back around N side of marsh - George and Rick looked like they were diving right into it. Past #11 and planning on a mostly straight route, with Susie just behind. Then she cut off on the trail segment past 11 and I figured she was gone, but I drifted left and picked up the trail near the little pond at #3 and wasn't far behind.
9. +01:30S past the marsh and picking up trail, trying to run up the reentrant and straight in, but went up one knoll top early and got confused on top. Susie came in from E, having gone around on trail.
10. Susie went back out and around on trails, I went straighter, meeting up with Jim Henderson briefly en route. Picked up the trail again near the pond at #3, and caught up to Susie again there. Straight line, hitting the ridge a bit high and reading the features to get down and in.
11. W to the trail, taking a hard fall, then trail a bit until it got too hard to follow and straight. It helped that I'd gone by this one earlier.
12. +05:00Aargh! I have gotten lost and confused on this ridgeline every time I have been at Ansonia! Somehow drifted left and couldn't read the rock features. I was way too far north - half way to #3.
13. Easy - picked up trail fragment.
