Race Evaluation

2012 Laramie Daze: Rocky Mountain Goat

JanetT

1. Angled a bit right to contour a bit more across the reentrant at about half-way. Joined Donna F. here and we did the rest of the course together.
2. +01:00Hit the rocky ridge too far right and had to correct.
3. Saw the dry rock bed of Diamond Bay.
4. Crossed the fence by one of the bends, and spotted the flagging tape for Mikell's "marked route" across the wet. Did not get feet wet.
5.
6. Went to the right around the big hill, via Conical Rock, which was an awesome sight. Easy to check off features and attackpoints.
7. +00:20Another neat rock feature in front of the control. Looped around the left of the rocks; right would've been a bit faster
8. Surprised to see Kevin T. here, seeing as how he moves a LOT faster than Donna and I were, but think he started late(?) and wasn't pushing hard.
9. Saw David Rogers here. Sam Listwak punched ahead of us and took the straighter route up and over the hill between 9 and 10.
10. We contoured around the hill and came into the control with Sam. I had to climb around the side of the bare rock.
11.
12. Large boulder ENE was attackpoint; read rock carefully as we went and picked the right one. Love that "spike"-y feeling.
13. Fun run down the reentrant. Found the mapped clear spot through the aspens.
14. Found a place to cross the stream and did not go swimming as I heard some others did (Pete D, etc.). We took the trail for awhile and then cut up and over the hill to the aspens. Made our way through and hit trail east of small rock cluster on S side (just west of north line). Folks on ATVs were riding in circles raising dust in the road cul de sac south of the control. Up the narrow trail until the boulder, west of aspens, and behind another awesome large boulder.
15. +01:00A bit off on my bearing and had to correct. Went the right distance, then realized things didn't match, but looked left and there it was.
16. Looked around the left side of Pretty Cool Boulder and in to the control.
17. Wow. Long slog through sage and up gently climbing reentrant. Tried to find clearing below stony ridgeline but I think we were a bit high (right), but I recognized the wide flat reentrant on the other side and saw the hill (east of the control) below, and Erin B coming out of it; she apparently had an adventure getting there.
18.
19.
F. Walked from the flag in to the finish. Under 3 hours!
