Race Evaluation

Hudson Highlander 7:

ken

1. yes, we were navigating on this leg! the idea was to come in from the left and avoid going straight through the green. but I guess that wasn't so bad..
2. catching some people who shouldn't be in front of us. ahr:170
3. my control! ahr:178
4. eric and joe in sight now, probably nobody in front of them. ahr:178
5. took the trail over the hill and out to the road. then up the trail closest to lake kanawauke. ahr:173
6. misha, boris, eric, ross and I coming into this one from the left (over the dam) as joe sneaks in from the right "watch joe.." I say. ahr:174
7. out to rockhouse first. just misha, I and joe on this loop. let misha run ahead on the trail as I stop to piss near #14 (couldn't see it though) catch back up to misha at the big marsh off the trail. joe is behind somewhere, never see him again. ahr:170
8. pretty much straight on (through some green) ahr:170
9. got a little bit past this one but turned around and saw it
10. learned my lesson trying to run straight through that stuff last year. around to the right but not on the trail. followed the edge of green right up into control. ahr: 165
11. ahr:168
12. pretty nice view along the top. ahr:168
13. on the road obviously. ahr:162
14. had sortof checked this area out already, but hadn't seen the control. see some people already heading out to 7 on their third loop. ahr:166
15. surprized to hear we are the first back from this loop (thought graeme was in front)in and out to pole brook next, now on 1:10k. still running together with misha, we agree this loop is much shorter. ahr:160
16. around to the left. attacking from the cliffs that point right to it. ahr:168
17. aiming off right through the green and then up the reentrant. right behind eric smith coming in. ahr:160
18. not really a good way to do this one; slightly left. ahr:157
19. back into the nice open forest.
20. downhill to the indistinct path. stop to take a dump. wipe with some leaves. continue along the slope and still into control before misha. ahr:158
21. feeling much better now. up on the ridge to the big round hill, straight down to control. ahr:163
22. passing some more 2nd loopers on this leg. ahr:162
23. around to the right. starting to run faster now, if misha can keep up thats fine, otherwise see ya. ahr:166
24. diagonally down to the road and along for a few meters, then back up onto the knoll. ahr:168
25. wondering how the race will look when everyone comes back together on this fourth loop. look back to see that misha is still in contact on the trail run. no sign of rockhouse people. In the lead at the exchange; not hanging around for anyone else to come in. some quick drinks and I'm outta here. ahr:165
26. some easy controls. ahr:167
27. out to the end of the trail and up. walked on the steep part. ahr:166
28. on the road, and small trail. around the brush to the left at the base of the slope. ahr:161
29. stuck in the barberry on the way out. this sucks. hamstrings cramping now. manage to sneak through some seemingly impassible green. stop to stretch hamstrings on a log. on the road/trail climbing early then into control. ahr:161
30. this one was definately hung 30m too low in the reentrant. came out from the cliff corner between the higher two cliffs in the reentrant turn right, nothing. all the way up to the road, look around. ready to call it not there, back down the reentrant one more time. it's there hiding on the north side. had to yank the punch (which was lodged in the bark of the tree) out. hard to tell how much time I lost here since I also stopped for water and gu after punching at 29. frustrating. ahr:158
31. thought I heard someone behind me on the road, but it was just my own shoes making strange noises. he's going crazy now folks. up the hill attacking from the knoll on the flat. ahr:166
32. a little confused here when I couldn't see the trails at the 4-way intersection. after some hesistation, up into control. ahr:162
33. diagonally down to the flat and along until before the uncrossable area. into the camp (western most cabin) through the green area (yeah I probably lost some time doing that but my original plan was to attack 33 from the right side) through the camp, then down and up into the small field, coming into the control from that direction. ahr:165
34. straight east to the road, then down. thinking, "yeah, I'm probably still winning" ahr:169
F. done! I'm the first one back. ahr:170
