Race Evaluation

2006 Sprint Series Finals: Sprint FINAL - short

bishop22

1. +00:10I picked a poor starting spot, so I had to go around a tree while Nate bolted to the front. I did a face plant on the downhill just before the control, and lost a bit to the pack.
2. Behind the pack, trying to close the gap.
3. +00:10In the middle of this leg I had to pause as I lost sight of everyone. At this point I figure out that the "roads" on the map were the very narrow paved paths. This got be back on track and I saw Spike punch as I was approaching.
4. +00:05Ran for the buildings, but hesitated figuring out which was which.
5. +00:40Should have gone to the dirt road right away, because as I angled towards it, I kept getting pushed away from it. Wound up going S from the buildings to hit the road, not noticing that I was basically on the line (my destination was the road instead of the control).
6. Finally saw JJ ahead of me and Nate behind me (going to the long course control), so it was a race again.
7. Nate and Patrick went zipping by me near the map exchange, hot on JJ's tail. My legs were fading.
8. I had a great vantage point for the race for second. Couldn't close the gap.
9. Even cutting some tangents wasn't able to get me any closer to the pack.
10. Nate went to the wrong control first, so I cut his lead in half, but no closer to the others.
11. +00:15They all disppeared straight, so I tried the left paved path route, but went to the hilltop instead of the saddle
12. +00:10Had to stop and take a bearing, since I had come into the control from the hill, it didn't feel right to U-turn when I thought I was supposed to turn right.
13. Executed the dirt road option better this time.
14. Tried to hustle in...
15. ...but legs really didn't have anything.
F. Tried to kick it in for the fans, but Nate still had a faster split.
