Race Evaluation

33rd West Point A Meet: Red Middle

jjcote

1. Bumbled around in the circle for a bit, I was up on the next flat spot, mistaking one rocky bump for another, and eventually scrutinized my map, turned around to scan the terrain, and saw the control right behind me.
2.
3. Missed a very small amount to the left.
4. Off a bit to the left, hit marsh and corrected.
5.
6.
7. Bad fall going diagonally down the slope, bruised and abraded left hip and knee, very painful, limping slowly for the next leg or two.
8. Got to the top of the cliff okay, didn't see the control for a moment because it was kind of buried in the blueberry.
9. Pretty shallow reentrant, but the control looked more like it was on a small cliff.
10. Went pretty much straight, below the cliff, which was dumb, going to the road is clearly better.
11.
12.
13. The giant stone outcrops didn't look much like boulders, but where else could they be? Went to the right of them and came up to the control from below.
14. Blind running, just trying to get close to the civilization stuff. Kept thinking I was closer than I was because I wasn't reading the map detail very well. Mostly left of the line, and I attacked from the stone wall end to the north. Confused because the giant cliff was mapped with a black dash so small that I didn't even see it, so the terrain looked very different from what I was expecting. Didn't lose much time.
