Race Evaluation

US Classic Champs: Red

EWhite

1. Read ahead and determined to be controlled early on blander terrain.
2. Bearing took me directly to unmapped rocks 50m upslope from identical rocks with control. Glad that Marie-Cat had warned me that model map had unmapped and divergently mapped rock and knoll features. Reinforced determination to be controlled.
3. Walked up much of last hill.
4. +00:30Crawled through barbwire fence - didn't see either end. Shaky in reentrants approaching circle.
5. Unplanned trip over top of hill R of line but changed route on the fly - was probably faster route anyway.
6. Hesitant rounding last spur until I saw clearing with rocks to W. John F. approaching as I left 6.
7. Went far R to avoid fence then down trail and spur.
8. +01:20Took straight route with JF right behind me. Approaching circle we diverged around some rocks, he then crossed in front of me, while I pulled up short just SE of circle. Puzzled over map for a bit and checked a boulder while JF punched and took off. By the time I figured it out he was a 100m away and accelerating.
9.
10. Started too far to L before correcting and going S end of big spur. Attacked (slowly) uphill from boulder to SW.
11. +00:15Opened up going straight, then slightly L up reentrant over rocky ridge, then down to control.
12. Tired and lacking confidence - walked up to circle.
13. Tired - could that really be my control in the reentrant? - aren't I looking for a clearing? - oh, never mind.
