1. 132m 58 3 +12 26% 90.2 5 7:19   132m 58 3 +12 26% 7:19 Didn't feel frazzled at the start, but it took several seconds to see that the map matched the terrain
2. 152m 51 4 +3 6% 94.8 5:35   284m 1:49 3 +15 16% 6:23 Into the map now, though running very easily.
3. 107m 55 3 +5 10% 94.5 5 8:34   391m 2:44 3 +19 13% 6:59 Stopped once to use my magnifier to make sure that I could pass under the structure in the courtyard.
4. 85m 1:00 6 +12 25% 91.7 5 11:45   476m 3:44 3 +31 16% 7:50 Was there really a passable wall one could go over rather than taking the stairs leaving 3? For some reason, felt the need to stop and double check my route after running up the hill before the building.
5. 92m 57 8 +7 14% 90.6 10 10:19   568m 4:41 3 +36 15% 8:14 Went carefully down the embankment just E of the control, worried about the lack of tread on my flat running shoes. After jumping off the wall, worried that it might have been uncrossable, so stopped to check the map, and relieved to see that it wasn't.
6. 92m 38 1 0% 100.0 6:53   660m 5:19 2 +36 13% 8:03 A college student was ambling over to examine the control marker as I approached; had to sprint a little to beat him to it.
7. 163m 1:13 4 +12 20% 92.7 10 7:27   823m 6:32 2 +48 14% 7:56 Had planned to use the path between the out-of-bounds green just S of the straight line, but then couldn't be sure if it was passable, so veered to get on that path earlier. Along the S side of the building, there was a sort of flying buttress extending outwards, and not seeing anything like that on the map, I stopped for a moment to make sure I was in the right place (I was).
8. 32m 12 1 0% 102.8 6:15   855m 6:44 2 +47 13% 7:52 Had planned this leg earlier, so never looked at the map.
9. 228m 1:20 2 +12 18% 95.8 5:50   1083m 8:04 2 +59 14% 7:26 Lots of places to go wrong on this one; probably went more slowly than I needed to.
10. 136m 1:28 3 +14 19% 93.6 15 10:47   1219m 9:32 2 +1:13 15% 7:49 Intended to cut across the courtyard, but my momentum after punching carried me W, so went around under the overhang. Unfortunately, a van was parked there and I had to slow down to squeeze by. Later, almost got suckered into the narrow passageway, but stopped to look at the clue sheet and to examine the map with my magnifier, and realized i needed to go around.
11. 250m 1:44 12 +28 37% 77.6 15 6:56   1469m 11:16 3 +1:41 18% 7:40 Slowed a couple of times during this leg to examine the route choice to #13. Then when I got to the control, there was no punch box on the stand! It took me several seconds to spot that the box was hanging down along the far side of the stand.
12. 71m 21 1 0% 101.6 4:55   1540m 11:37 2 +1:39 17% 7:32 No hesitation.
13. 368m 3:32 2 +22 12% 101.4 9:36   1908m 15:09 2 +2:01 15% 7:56 Left 12 without looking at the map, because I had already made my route choice: the southern route, across the foot bridge. Thought this would give me better footing and also give me a look at territory I'd be running through later. Looked for 17 and 16 as I ran near them, but didn't see either.
14. 167m 1:27 11 +24 38% 82.0 15 8:40   2075m 16:36 2 +2:25 17% 8:00 Went left of the building. Better choice would have been to go right.
15. 169m 1:05 5 +11 20% 86.2 6:24   2244m 17:41 2 +2:35 17% 7:52 Appears that I lost some time on this leg, but I don't now why. Still not running fast enough?
16. 264m 2:21 3 +25 22% 92.2 8:54   2508m 20:02 2 +3:00 18% 7:59 Started picking up the pace. Having run through the territory at the end of the leg earlier helped.
17. 190m 1:24 1 0% 106.3 7:22   2698m 21:26 2 +3:00 16% 7:56 Really running now, and again familiarity helped. Had seen Rick Worner ahead of me as I got near 16, but he went around the other side of the building and I got to the bridge ahead of him.
18. 105m 35 4 +3 9% 95.2 3 5:33   2803m 22:01 2 +3:03 16% 7:51 Slight hesitation I didn't need to check that I wasn't doing something stupid.
19. 67m 18 2 +2 13% 96.3 4:28   2870m 22:19 2 +3:03 16% 7:46 Run!
20. 63m 19 4 +1 6% 94.7 5:01   2933m 22:38 2 +3:03 16% 7:43 Given how strong I was at the end (matched Peter on 3 of the last 4 splits, and 3 secs behind on the other), I should have been running harder sooner. Think I underestimated my conditioning, which has been improving over the last couple of months after two years of having training significantly curtailed by injuries.
