hate to say it but this was almost as unenjoyable as british long. had a really bad sleep last night, kept waking up with a really sore stomach and so was already quite tired before running.

was motivated for all of the 2s between punching the start and picking up the map. went through the open, decided i hated the heather so went into the forest instead, got stuck in a load of fallen trees so came back into the heather to find a lovely path going exactly where i wanted. then hit the wall which for some reason i was expecting to be a path? crossed the wall then went back into the forest to find the control on a tree. in a forest. was not surprised when i left #1 to see alice catching me up 3 mins already. had come up with at least 5 different ways of cutting the course short at this point but when alice actually caught me at #3 i kept up along the ride to #4 before i lost my mind, went way too far down the hill and had to climb back up to it. got incredibly confused at #6 because i could hear shouting as i came into the open re-entrant, saw like 10 people all going into a control and even though i knew i was way too far down for it to be #6 i was still doubting myself. figured it out though and all was well until #7 where daisy appeared behind me having caught up 6 mins and i had a nice rant until she ditched me after #8.

dragged myself round a bit more until i met ewan and tom going into #10. they were confused, i wasn’t but they were faster than me so still got there first :( seems to be a recurring theme of me and ewan meeting on long courses when i’ve completely lost the will to live, he’s not very good at motivation unfortunately. feel like ‘dejected emma’ sums it up quite well though. they then confused me by having a different control after #10 but i figured out where i was actually supposed to be going. at this point i was at the far end of the map so decided i may as well finish the course, maybe even enjoyed myself slightly from #11 - #13. watch beeped a km at the same time as punching #13 and i spent the rest of the course doubting whether i actually punched it or not which was not fun.

struggled on until #16 where i never crossed the ride but then got to the control? threw me off. up until #17 this was a very slow + hesitant but fairly clean run. not really sure why but after #17 just ran down the hill, no idea what direction but then hit the open at the bottom and realised i didn’t know where i was so had to go along until i ended up in the car park thing to relocate. #18 and #19 were just a struggle through the heather, then #21 decided i had had enough so went all the way round on the paths before someone called paul kept trying to overtake me to #21 and #22 and i got annoyed so i beat him on the run in.

very proud of myself for actually making it round the whole course considering how much i hated it. not sure i’m much of a fan of deeside forests tbh, no offence maroc, would just rather be running in a straight line across a field where you can see the control from 200m away

so much fun!! strongly resembled a wcoc area so was feeling quite in my element as well. honestly a really good run, not much to complain about for once. had fiona infront of me from like #4 until i overtook her at #9, that was definitely motivating. made a tiny mistake on #11 where i came off the path too early but lost like 10s max. died a bit right at the end but other than that it was excellent :)) half the m/w20 podium was english too, love to see it

was feeling vile to begin with, weirdly sore ankle and just no energy. jogged round the first bit, got caught by this fell runner who was wayy faster than me but kept making massive mistakes. got into the slatefell estate and felt a bit better, had to take my hair out of its plait because it kept hitting my back and really hurt rip. then after the map flip fell runner guy made a big mistake, i was with him again and raced the last bit a little bit faster. good fun though, me and orienteering are friends again :))
