G’day all and welcome to another legendary Legends write-up.
Seeing as how FOG has gone to Tassie and Vince has wanda lust, it's been left to me to tell you to bloody well get over to Dryandra for our event or we will spit the dummy big time, as I don’t want to be working me guts out for a small field! You have been warned!!!!
Anyway, Mr Rogaine pulled rank again and delegated me to do this so you lot better be grateful otherwise I will do more.
Mr Rogaine had decided he would like to re-visit the Mallee Fowl map and do it exactly as we did 17 years ago and boy, did we have some fun setting that. No doubt you will hear some of the stories around the Friday night fire so get there early and enjoy the dribble. We wanted to set it as close as possible to the original event as that alone will save us heaps of ‘arm chairing’.With the new 5 metre contour maps now available instead of the original 10 metre ones, it has become tempting to ‘slide’ a control to a better spot as the detail is so much better, but you will have to find out if we have. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find any decent vetters so we’ve had to take on Sheryl Foot and Steve Digwood and all I know about them is that one is a ‘looker’ (Ian’s words) so it can’t be all that bad, eh!
WARA is very fortunate to have a couple of beaut farmers in Barry and Isoabell Hardie who, once again, have let us use the original Hash House site in a large paddock and are only too happy to have us all using their property so we can all enjoy ourselves. Actually we think that they just wanted to get rid of us when we stopped to ask permission to use their land - especially when Mr Rogaine asked for some scones and jam!
For those who have never been to Dryandra (what !!??) it’s basically all Wandoo trees and as such there is no undergrowth (ask someone smart why?); so it makes for really easy walking and navigation, plus there are many tracks which Ian and I will endeavour to have marked on maps, especially ones close to a control.
Seeing as how some sooks are going to some piddly event in SA, there's a good chance you'll get a badge if you're half decent at rogaining like me. Why else am I called "Legend"?
Anyway that is enough from me now, so please come over and help us celebrate “Mallee Fowl Replay” on Saturday 5th May 2012 - that is exactly 100 days before my 60th Birthday on 13th August 2012, which gives you plenty of time to save up to buy me something decent!
See ya there,
Legend
