The WAELAR Strong 12-hour adventure race will bring good old-fashioned fun back! We'll start and finish in this awesome summer camp, but you'll also be heading out in to Jefferson National Forest for a full day of trekking, biking, and paddling.
We're calling it the WAELAR (pronounced like wailer or whaler, take your pick) because the start and finish is at the awesome camp called Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing (WAEL) and it's an adventure race (AR). See what we did there? WAEL is about 3 hours from DC and about 35 miles from Roanoke. Teams can stay onsite pre- and post-race at an amazing rate and just roll outta bed race morning, ready for a fabulous day racing in the woods!
The morning of the race, we'll give each team and soloists a map with checkpoints and a list of "Rules of Travel." Racers, as a soloist or as a team, will be provided a map and specific rules of travel and will have up to 12 hours to complete the adventure race. It's not easy, and it's everyone's kind of fun, but you sure feel fantastic when you're done!
