Discussion: Reliable assessment please?

I did say reliable but yours might be biased.
I came across an item that linked attractive appearance with performance on the road bike viz riders who came in top 10? of TdF were judged by women to be more attractive than those outside top 10 (unknown to subjects etc etc). My point is I can't recognise a rider in TdF out of riding helmet. But what would your assessment of the WA riders be in a parallel study??

I believe tRicky is the hottest cyclist in the universe and I'm not biased at all. End of study. ;)

AHHH science . . . .

TrishTash:
I was being very scientific. I have done some sciency research. It all reached the same conclusion.

fletch:
I've been on long, late night walks with tRicky. I don't find him overly attractive.

Soph:
Perhaps darkness was a factor, fletch? Or the point source illumination from an LED head torch? On the original research...how does Lance fit within this? Bouncing up the Cols in yellow, but much less attractive now, in personality...

Tooms:
Come Sophie, let me hazard a guess you had a soft spot for the dazzling Cippolini, or fabulous Fabian too?

MTBjen:
The geeky schlecks? Or who could resist cadel?? Seems like a flawed study to me, maybe the better athletes just look more self-assured which is always pretty attractive. And did they control for the quality of photography?
Anyway the most successful wa rider any of us know is probably Evo- I might be the wrong person to ask?

tRicky:
I would say it's more to do with the $$$ factor. "Oh a strong TdF rider, he must be rich. I want him!!!"

This study would also link with all the annual 'hottest people on the planet' lists, which tend to favour people in the spotlight (e.g. celebrities), which is no surprise because they are always in the public eye so people know who they are.

TrishTash:
Cadel has a face like a brick. I'm sure he's nice as a person. They should have studied other sports as well, as a control to their 'test'. How many champion heavy weight lifters are rated as attractive?

Maybe they should study how attractive a person is if you know how wealthy they are (net wealth). Does it work for guys too? Is the attractiveness of a woman relative to some other factors? That's a scary thought...

tRicky:
I'm sure he's nice as a person.

Ask some of his former teammates. They'll probably agree with you (if you pay them enough).

Plus celebrities are usually cashed up. Maybe that's why CUB's are able to find partners, it's not about attractiveness, it's about cash flow.
Feb 7, 2014 12:52 AM #
TrishTash:
Really? I don't know him so I can't pass judgment on his personality. All I know is that he is not pretty.

It's all about the ute.
Feb 7, 2014 1:24 AM #
TrishTash:
My sister has a ute.
Feb 7, 2014 1:36 AM #

And here's the science about men in utes and attractiveness:
http://autos.yahoo.com/news/study--women-most-attr...

BTW the endurance athlete/attractiveness study controlled for the cash flow variable, none of the people rating the cyclists knew who they were. And a couple of them were excluded due to wearing hats or sunnies, so the quality of the photos was controlled for (as much as possible) also.

Cadel Evans is ugly, I'm with TT on that one. I bet he'd go faster if he did something with those eyebrows, they are hardly aerodynamic.
Feb 7, 2014 2:01 AM #
tRicky:
Attractive people driving those vehicles or is it the vehicles themselves the surveyees are saying are attractive?
Feb 7, 2014 2:02 AM #
TrishTash:
Aw man I have to keep my 4wd clean now?? Rubbish! I can't stop driving it into inanimate objects either...

I think that the study shouldn't have been lited to just cyclists. Other successful sports persons have different physiques and characteristics due to the nature of their sports. If the same trend held true over multiple vastly different sports, then I would be more comfortable accepting the study conclusions.

Shaving Cadel's eyebrows off wouldn't help him either. He has a very stubborn set face and jawline. Square like a brick.
Feb 7, 2014 2:03 AM #
tRicky:
Studies to tend to be towards a set group, hence why it's a study. Do some research and you might find studies related to other sports.

MTBjen:
John didn't have a ute when I met him, but he has one now, ergo, being associated with me has made him more attractive.
Feb 7, 2014 2:59 AM #
tRicky:
Is Ergo the name of his ute?
Feb 7, 2014 5:02 AM #
Tooms:
Er... Go jump tRicky.
Feb 7, 2014 5:11 AM #
TrishTash:
Er, who is to 'go jump tRicky'?

Thanks Tash for answering the question!!! I wanted some gen on the WA crew for when I may come over for Aus champs - just so I know who to look out for.
Feb 7, 2014 10:17 AM #
Tooms:
No-one.

I'd be looking for Efmund anyway Tooms.

MTBjen:
Well he is absolutely beautiful and can't ride a bike at all, which blows your whole theory out of the water anyway

:-)) I knew that anyway - and while I did request unbiased assessment - it's a well known fact!
