But going by the speed you did the last 900m in (3.38 per k) you would have still gone under 17

If it was short my time would be worth about 16.55....either way I am happy. It might just make getting a new Pb a hell of a lot harder!

Whoa whoa whoa. It sounds to me like this attempt should be declared null and void. You might have hit the wall after 4980m and had to crawl over the line, taking you over 17 minutes ;-).
