Just thought I'd post a shout-out to our friend Manisa who is an undiscovered genius at repairing and modifying AR clothes and packs.
I was using a place that tended to take forever or forget the order completely until I called to ask where it was.
M has so far added nice zippered pockets to 2 of my running packs and repaired 2 others, added very nice pit zips to 2 ultralight goretex jackets, added zippered pants pockets to my favourite waterproof Adenat tights, armoured some tights for orienteering, replaced the zip on a jacket, adjusted another pair of pants, and apparently rebuilt Goose's favourite lifejacket. She also gets it done within a week or so, not a season.
Only thing she doesn't have is a big inventory of spare fabric and parts, so she's been using some of our raced-out gear and jerseys. I love rehabilitating / re-using/ upgrading my gear!
She's up in Caledon. Let me know if you want contact info.
No financial interest.....
+1 Manisa has done some repair work for me too. She's an athlete too so it's easy to explain what we want. My first repair was just expanding arm holes on a nice running tank top to prevent chafing. She also put a new zipper in my favourite, long-abused AR pack. Getting stuff back and forth is the issue though, as she lives near us, about an hour north of Toronto.
Cool! Wish she was closer to where we are!
Could ship stuff I suppose, and even do Skype to explain what needs doing.
Awesome! Wish I had known that when my first and favorite Salomon pack needed repairs after UTNE & trekking in Nepal. At the time friends told me to go back to Running Free where I bought. They said they would send it to Salomon for repairs. After a couple weeks of calling, Running Free finally gave me a gift certificate and I never got the pack back. Total bummer. I have learn to live with my new pack(s), but as you AR folks know there is nothing like your first one.
Looks like Sport Sewing is still in business in Toronto. I haven't used them for years but they did some repairs for me too. It is much more lucrative to sell new gear so there aren't many places in this line of work.
