Thanks Rob, just signed up for an appointment, will see when they can see me.
that sucks! could take a while to feel good again, but you'll know more after going to the doctor. Take care of yourself!
Well, luckily I can still run just fine, though probably not at high speed through the woods for a while...
Yes, be carefull with it. And don't trip again anytime soon. It's not fun it it get so loose it gets dislocated every time you trip in forest - tripping happens all the time as you know.
We had a guy in our club who's shoulder used to be too loose and it got dislocated every now and then. Few years a go in Jukola 2nd (or third) leg he tripped and it got dislocated, he continued running the course until there was first aid point by a road. He asked them to put it back, they tried but could not get it. Our brave guy tried to continue with his mislocated shoulder (there was about 8 km night O left), but they took his map and didn't let him go. And that was well done by them - he's MTB-O national team rider and he needs his shoulder there. DNF in Jukola is't so bad after all, especially if you can run it every year. It's amazing how our brain works during competition stress...
it's a good excuse for 6 months without push-ups.
I did something similar in French WC terrain March '06... after two and a half hours in stumbling through snow and lava in Mazayes I finally managed a good old fall - left arm hit an invisible tree stump, I think the shoulder went pop pop and I probably broke a knuckle... only 40 minutes to run after that...
falling while orienteering didn't do the shoulder any favours in the weeks that followed. Consider at least not terrain running for 2-3 weeks.
After that it may start being strong enough to support a fall, maybe not...
and it may take several months to get fully back to normal
Ui, ui, take good care of yourself.
Get it bak to normal man, we can't afford to start losing Team Members NOW!!!
A dislocated shoulder deserves a fair amount of respect in terms of recovery.
I've dislocated my right shoulder about 12 times, and just recently dislocated my left one doing single barbell chest presses in the gym - not pretty mate!
First time I did my shoulder I did it just like you, wasn't sure what really happened, it went back by itself, and it was sore next few days but I just trained as normal. However a few months later playing volleyball I did an over arm serve and the shoulder totally popped out and stayed out - and shit the pain! Since then its never been totally stable and fucks your confidence....especially when you're wrestling! Learning from the mistakes I made I really think you should go to a proper specialist + physio and do the exercises they tell you to do, it's shit but it's the only way to seriously reduce the chance of it popping out again.
