The Ridley Foxtrot and Riddle is the capstone event of DVOA’s orienteering season. This year we will have a wonderful slate of orienteering courses set by veteran course setter Hugh MacMullan III; as well as the fantastic Riddle set by US Trail-O team member Karl Ahslwede. Stick around for hot refreshments, and the chance to win the Ridley Raffle! And, don’t forget to collect your award - there will be special awards given to the top male and female of each course as well as the top 3 finishers of the Riddle.

Schedule:
Registration / Courses Start: 10am-1pm
Ridley Riddle: 12pm to 2:30pm
Ridley Raffle Drawing: 2:45pm
Ridley Riddle course solutions: 3pm
Courses Close: 3pm
Award Ceremony: 3:05pm
Riddle Course Review w/Karl: 3:15pm

Course Setter’s Notes: The Ridley Creek courses enable orienteers to avoid the worst of Ridley’s briars. Course distances, climb and number of controls, respectively, are:

White 2.1 km 105 m 14 controls
Yellow 3.5 km 155 m 14 controls
Orange 4.9 km 210 m 10 controls
Brown 3.2 km 140 m 16 controls
Green 5.0 km 265 m 19 controls
Red 6.7 km 305 m 28 controls

Note the greater than usual number of controls on the advanced courses. This is due in large part to clusters of short legs – forcing orienteers to concentrate while “control picking” and avoiding possible thorny route choices. Route choice will largely be on longer legs, with the usual Ridley “which road, which trail, how can I avoid climb” options.

There are numerous controls in some areas, some common to more than one course. They are all on different features, but pay particular attention to the control code. Anyone following someone on a different course will have problems.

Finally, the Red Course (only) crosses Ridley Creek twice, at ankle to mid-calf crossings. Orienteers willing to get wet feet will be rewarded with some of the Park’s nicest woods.

We still need volunteers! Please send an email to Ann MacMullan (ann@macmullan.org) or Dasha Babushok (dbabusho@gmail.com) if you would like to join the 2013 Ridley FoxTrot Volunteer Team -- the Rousing Ridley Rangers!

Location: (Intersection of Gradyville Rd and Providence Rd in Glen Mills, PA) - follow orange and white O signs once inside the park – Pavilion 17. There are bathroom facilities on site.

Will the Trot be on the recently revised version of the Ridley map (I gather the fieldchecker's last day in the woods is tomorrow)? Will we see any of the new terrain?

Ah! Excellent question!

The new, beautiful, and mysterious Ridley terrain and map will be unveiled at the 2015 DVOA Ridley FoxTrot and the Ridley O-Riddle A-Meet!

Come to the December 1st Ridley FoxTrot and Ridley Riddle to get a teaser of what is to come!

One more question. Can we get foxtrot lessons at the DVOA Ridley FoxTrot and Ridley Orienteering Riddle? I think that would be really classy. Dylan can wear his tux-top!
