The Georgia Navigator Cup , including Southeastern Interscholastic Championships will be held at Sweetwater Creek State Park, Lithia Springs, Georgia, on MLK weekend, Jan 18-20, 2014.

2-Day Classic A-Meet on Saturday and Sunday. OUSA Standard Class Awards based upon 2 day total time. Awards for both individuals and teams in Interscholastic competition based upon 2 day total score.

Extreme-O competition on Monday: Extreme-O is patterned after a three-day military competition held in a member NATO country each year. Typically, competitors orienteer from several different types of maps, including aerial photographs, quads, and topographical maps. Past events have included rope bridge crossings, canoe legs, culvert controls, memory legs, and other interesting tests. There will be a short course and a long course. Due to the nature of the event, advance registration is a must and space is limited to approximately 75. (Couples or groups (incl. families) count as one). The event begins at 9:00a.m. on Monday at Sweetwater Creek State Park at the main HQ Group Shelter. All participants must attend a briefing on Sunday, following the GNC Sunday Award ceremony at meet HQ.

Full details to be posted at www.gaorienteering.org within the next couple of weeks.

Registration to open November 1, 2013.

I had a really good time. Thanks to GAOC.

If I may compliment a particularly trivial item---and I am not joking here---The tyvek bib number and specifically, its lack of corner holes: I heard someone say that these were made by edwarddes, but I'm not sure. I'm assuming the lack of holes is due to the extra difficulty of having a tool to punch them, but I never once in my life suspected that just putting the pins through the tyvek without prepunched holes would result in an improved mechanical attachment as well as improved damping---they don't flop around and they don't make noise. I have never been more satisfied with a bib number. Oh, and the name and start times were really nice, too.

Nice photos, folks. Mike's photos of the Extreme-O mud pit say it all.

Ed Despard did design and print the bibs - I particularly liked the right side up and upside down start times - so you can read them while wearing the bib - brilliant :)

@cedarcreek: you know, you can ignore the holes when they do exist as well (as I have been doing for years).

If it looks like there are a lot of Juniors in the pictures, that's 'cause there were. 70% of the runners at the GA Nav / SEIS were under 21.

I have uploaded my headcam videos from Saturday and Sunday. Make sure to set the playback quality to HD so you can read the map. Some browsers also support 2x playback speed in case you want a brain workout.

Reviewing them, I am reminded how nice the terrain was. Thanks again GAOC.

yes, thanks for posting that Ken. I am curious about your reasoning for leaving the trail when you did on the Saturday leg 4-5. Did you want to stretch out the climb or think you had a better attack or?

What software tools do you use? I have a GoPro and GPS, and would be interested in making a video sometime.

ken:
That early attack to 5 was a mistake. I wasn't quite used to 1:15 and had misjudged the distance. I realized it almost immediately but figured it was better to keep going than go back down again.

The software is RGmapVideo, which you can get from the routegadget download page.

Thanks for your videos Ken. They should be required watching for all aspiring orienteers. Many lessons there.
