There's a wonderful
compilation of their greatest races on youtube. There was supposed to be a movie based on the book before the London Olympics. I googled to see what happened to it, and looks like it may still get
produced.
One to watch out for (maybe a cameo appearance for Steve Cram, the young Turk who displaced them both atop the world middle distance best)!
Anyhow the Beeb did bring out a movie about 2 rowers and class struggle ahead of the London Olympics called "Going for Gold". Set in the London Olympics of '48, it even features some Americans!! Worth watching even if no surprises as the "under class" amateur triumphs.
Indeed, an inspiring compilation. Coe "hardly OOB' per announcer after the '84 Olympic 1500 win. Coe, Cram, Ovett - what a period & viewed with nostalgia!
Looked over 1500 & 800m past: 1500m noted 2 Moroccan and 2 Algerians WR holders since Cram in '85 &, in 800, last 6 WR's (since Coe in '81) by two Kenyans, one born Danish.
@bl; interesting observsations and food for thought.
BTW the book is fascinating - I didn't know this, however, Ovett started life as a 400m man and long jumper - he was good! Coe was supposedly a 5000m guy. They were both teenage prodigies who made the cut at senior level- a rare feet indeed.
