As another old guy, you might ask your doc about the advisability of getting a QCT Bone Density Scan to assess the "T-Score" of your major bones, and how close you may be to osteopenia.

Most of us tend to lose bone mineral density as we age, making bones more vulnerable to osteoporotic fractures, and more difficult to repair once broken. My knowledge about my own thin bones has caused me to discontinue certain sports that have high risk of impact. Good luck.

Well, in a cast ... that's serious. Good thing you went to the doctor.
Good to see you last weekend!

Base of thumb? That sounds familiar. Heal well.

In reply to Clark, my orthopedist does not see any evidence of ostoporosis. This break is a common one for anybody falling on their hand. However, arthritis in my thumb base is rampant, though I never notice any symptoms.
Thanks to all for your comments.
