Discussion: Long Distance map scale

in: 2013 U.S. Individual Championships/Team Trials (May 10–12, 2013 - Queensbury, NY, US)

The website says the following about the long distance map:

Scale, 1:10,000, 5m contour interval. Principal mapper Mark Dominie in 2012.
Description: Mixed forest with many hills, ponds and rock features; rocky footing in many areas. Includes Scout Camp with many paths; modest trail network away from Camp.

Is the scale for the elite course going to be 1:10,000 like the rest of the classes or 15,000 as recommended in the rules?

I don't know the answer to your question, but here is a relevant section of the rules:
"A.20.3.1 MAP: Scale 1: 15,000 is encouraged for M/F-21+ courses, but if not practical, 1:10,000 is acceptable. For all other classes, 1:10,000 is standard, with Contours 5m or 2.5m, or other intervals if explicitly approved by Sanctioning Committee. ISOM standards apply."

Thanks bct.

I am aware of that rule and I ask because the rule does not actually specify a required scale but rather a suggested one.

The event is also the Canadian team trials and I'd like to know the scale in advance so I can be better prepared.

Map scale for all courses is 1:10,000 for both the Long on Sunday and Middle on Saturday. 5m contour interval for both.
