i've often wondered...masters haven't got the financial incentive but they might have a big ego or something to prove (though what you would prove if you accomplish things by doping is questionable). Glad to hear you haven't seen it there.

O Steve!:
go to any Gym weight room and and look at all the people (mostly guys) that have no financial incentive to dope.....they just caught a guy in a NY Grand Fondo who doped......I would not be surprised at all find Age group Master athletes doping....How many masters have low T and go there doctors to prescribe.....just some things to ponder.....

I would be shocked if there aren't masters track runners who are doping.

Did you see the New Yorker article on the masters marathon runner who cheated his way to victory in many races? They still don't know how he did some of them, such as Boston, since his chip showed a time at every checkpoint (though not always a plausible time). For one race that he won outright, they could find no evidence of his cheating - until they discovered the race was a fiction, and he had put up the website and results on the internet himself under a pseudonym, and responded to e-mail queries as the race director. Outrageous. And it wasn't for the money.

Gym bunnies aside, if you want to compete at World level the World Masters Athletics adopts the IAAF / WADA anti-doping policy. How effective the testing is, that is another matter. Cheating is still cheating and I suspect a minority do, as in all walks of life. For most people though, training and performance is about being the best you can be; without the aid of artificial stimulation.

Hey, its "Kip" Litton, as in Kip Keino. Good choice of first name for credibility at least. What a fantasist!

Totally missed that one! :-)

World Masters in Orienteering does absolutely nothing. They don't even check ages.

I would assume as you get to the older men that there is a lot of doping in the form of taking testosterone. I haven't gone looking for any data, but it's hard to believe it is not the case given the male ego. Makes no difference that no prize money is involved.

Very true; human behavior is drvien by intrinsic and extrinsic rewards.Seems like the big 3 agents EPO, HGH and T should be on the testing regimens for ALL age groups. Should OUSA have a policy on this and do we need one?

If there was a policy that would not cost significant resources (dollars and people) to implement, then it would be worth considering. As it is, not going to happen.
