Do you think you can fix mine? I bought a pair of pads on eBay and they don't seem to register any input, either in the DDR program or in the joystick setup utility. Do you think they are just dead?

JJ, it looks like you have a whole new lucrative sideline in the making!

If you get them to me, I'll look at them, but I can't promise anything. Are they Kraft pads, or some other kind? I'll probably be at the Pine Hill meet this weekend, if you're going and want to bring them along. (For that matter, we could go over to my office and take a look at them because it's only about a mile away.)

(You can't use the word "lucrative" to describe something that one does for free.)

John, what kind of pads are they? Did you go to "Options" and then "Config Key/Joy Mappings"?

Maybe you can earn some credits that you can deposit in the Psychic Rewards Bancorp. Or you could charge a nickel per dance pad, and then you could mutter to yourself: "If I had a nickel for every DDR..."

John, you might need to disengage the DDR hubs by doing backwards intervals on them. Did you try that?

I suspect Cristina may be correct. It may well be that the program isn't going to do squat if you don't do the key mappings first. I can't remember whether there are default values that make sense. Of course, if you have a pad that isn't working, and you've never done the mappings before, it may be far from obvious just what it is you're supposed to do (even with a pad that worked, I had to scratch my head for a sec before I realized what was going on in there).

Maybe I should charge a nickel for every pad I work on. Hey Barb, you owe me a dime! (I'll leave it up to you to collect half from Cristina's sister.)

Hmmm...introducing my sister to all these nice orienteers who do nice things for her was part of my grand plan to get her to start orienteering. You know, the social route. (She's not a nerd like I am.) So I'm just going to have to forbid anyone from collecting any nickels from Caroline at any point ever. No nickels. Or dimes. If I have to, and I hate to do this, I'll pony up the cash myself. But shhhhh!
