The map was originally drafted at 1:10, and I think would make a better map that way. Then the glaring omissions (like the extra boulder in the circle at 3) would seem like acceptable generalizations. There were several areas (granted, I was walking, so I took a Michael-Commons-like approach to minutely examining the map for things to complain about afterward) that I felt were a little screwy, spatially - all the bends in the main trail, for example, were either not mapped or useless for navigation. A couple cliffs where I was like, "why is the cliff pointing THAT way?" I think it was #5 where if you actually attacked from the bend in the trail, you ended up in the saddle, south of the real reentrant. And of course this saddle had a streamer in it, marked "A5".

Also, 2 was in the wrong spot. It was roughly on the south side of the marsh, but too far to the east, so that it was basically in the reentrant to the east of the little hill, rather than the one to the west, where it would appear to be on the map.

Sorry, I normally try to keep my whining to a minimum about meets, don't know what's brought it out in full force about this one. I'm done now.

I think the area would make a fine beginner's course/learn to orienteer place, if people stayed on trails and the trails were updated a bit.

As is the case of many of the maps we have revised lately, it had a USGS base, which makes it very difficult to be absolutely sure of the contours being correct. Everything is based on contours using that as a base, and the contours are never accurate.

I think I was the first person to set courses on that map, and my recollection is that it was always pretty bad (I haven't been there since, so I don't know if maybe it's been improved through updating). Is it still a big poison ivy patch?
