18:12 is still stupid fast, even if its not PR territory. Nice job...

Thanks, annoying to be slower, but yeah, still isn't bad. I'm thinking on racing Forest Park sometime, next Wed is XC? Might you go?

You could have given me a 7 minute head start and run me down.

=) to the final sprint? I so like that that's a downhill on this course... the one redeeming feature of last mile!

I was definitely doing my best toward the end. Picked up 6 or 7 places in the last half mile or so. I wasn't expecting it, because at 2 miles there was a pretty big gap in front of me.

Next week is back to the XC course at Forest Park, but Bolton XC started last night down here in CT, so I'm committed to that & swords on Wednesday evenings. Last weeks foray to FP was just a last minute lark as Anna wasn't up for swords last week. There will most likely be some Striders from the Enfield/Somers area at FP next week though.

Nice Charlie! So I'll probably still head down for Forest Park next week, if my legs actually feel better at some point... have heard it's a fun/tough course!

It's tricky enough that they mark it with flour. The marking is fine. Otherwise you would never know where to go. Tends to draw a smaller crowd, maybe 30-35?

Ok, think I should be able to follow flour. Else I could bring an o-map.. =)

Line-o 5k course? That might slow you down ;)

I haven't always found the course to be that well marked, so you might want to check where it goes in advance, maybe as a warm-up. See the map on my log.

Ah, ok, that is helpful, map memory exercise then... but really, my legs have to recover or I'm just not going. Well, they first have to recover for intended sprint training on Sat, then again for Wed =)

Course has been well marked the past few times I've run it - but you have to watch the flour on the ground, ignore any streamers you might see. Couple of tricky spots - heading down the paved path from the plateau, the course cuts very sharply R into the weeds before crossing bridge/stream. Lots of newbies blow by this one. There's a plank bridge over small stream, but you're best off just storming straight through the water since the next couple hundred meters are muddy anyway - you're not staying dry..

After the muddy stretch the course starts uphill, then cuts sharp L into some waist high weeds - trail is there, but easy to miss if you don't watch the flour mark on the ground. A couple of spots the trail comes back close to itself, but is marked on the ground and usually a volunteer pointing you down the correct path (2 spots for volunteers).

Cool, thanks for heads up, will re-read with Phil's track of the course before going out next Wed!

I might NoHo next Tues... Bolton Wed..

AliC:
Aw, that's offset for me, I do Noho every other week... want to delay until week after this? Back-to-back would be pushing it, given my legs haven't been recovering that well...

I have yet to run on my calf strain from Wed, plus the boys will be away at camp the first week of July. Ellen would probably love a NoHo road trip on the third.... Sounds like a plan... :-)

Cool, that'll be great!

I also have oodles of race-for-free coupons for Noho, so find me before registering and I'm very happy to share, unless you have some yourself!

ooh, I'm planning on that NoHo race, too. Will be fun to have a gang there!

We may come up for FP Wed. Haven't done the XC course and looks like they need a new age record in the above and beyond category.

3rd is looking iffy - local fireworks & pre-party @ sister-in-laws. But fireworks not until 9:30 so maybe I'll do both...

Are you guys in walk? Think I'm definitely going, am going to try to show up early and do the course once before the race, so I have some clue about where it goes... PG marked it on an o-map for me =)

cmorse, let me know if you do end up coming to Noho on 3rd- I still have a medal to get to you from North Carolina!

We still plan it! Slowly. Maybe if I start when you do your warm up, I will finish about the same time as your race;-}
