I've just had a look at the H3 course. It's like...everything we (and in particular, you) thought about and tried not to do last year was on that course.

* #2 in this map's version of Hell Hole Gully, which realistically should never be used for controls.
* 2-3, straight across the steep gully systems.
* 4-5, direct route runs straight into the top of the second most dangerous cliff on the map. (I agree the vege at #5 is undermapped)
* 7-8, direct route straight into the top of THE most dangerous cliff.

As much as I love the area (and one day hope to run on it...) this is a great example of how the wrong course can destroy it.

I knew about the big cliffs on the way to 5 & 8 and avoided them. Aproaching these at pace, by the unknowing, could have been deadly.

Why would you send all the courses into Hell Hole Gully?

Alex Tarr told me once not to map features in the middle of the thickest vegetation because someone would use it for a control. Perhaps this is the case with those cliffs in that gully?

*blink* I don't see how you can NOT map those cliffs. I kinda get what Alex is talking about (eg. a lone boulder in the middle of parrotbush) but that run of cliffs is 150m long and a significant impediment to crossing the gully. :)

The only saving grace of Monday's courses is that they used the southern-most cliff in the entire section - although that is probably the only describable one.

Gah. Missed that one entirely. *hangs head in e-shame*
