Just checking in after being off AP for a while. You're going to Iceland. Awesome. Please take photos. I suspect that "distinct tree" will be used on the map! I hear that there aren't many trees in Iceland.

I suspect we'll have more than one boulder control. :-D

The photos from last year's event show some trees, but I can imagine they don't come as large as some around here. We should have a great time; Mary J. and Spike went last year (as did Cristina) and they highly recommended it. The Strats are also going, so we'll have a few familiar faces there.

The best I can with my point-and-shoot (with 10x zoom).

I've been to Reykjavik twice. What makes such an impact in northern latitudes is all the daylight...too much for a good night's sleep! Recall a fellow whitewashing his fence at 0100 and, of course, all manner of people on the streets outside pubs at similar hours in broad daylight. When one considers the prolonged darkness at winter solstice, it only makes sense:).

That reminds me, I need to find something comfortable to cover my eyes to sleep or I'll be one irritable orienteer!

We went to northern Sweden and Norway on our honeymoon, and had the same problem. Light 24 hours a day! It was hard not to feel like we should be out sightseeing when it's daylight! We have great photos taken at 11pm.... But sleeping was hard! I'd suggest practicing with your eyecovers before you leave so you're used to them.

I do my best sleeping when it is light out. Nothing like an afternoon nap.

Not when you have thin eyelids :-) (which apparently generally comes with the red hair gene)

Noise bothers me more than light. Just because I have sparse gray hair now doesn't mean I was never a redhead, though.

Pretty sure I've never seen any pics of you with red hair...

Not as red as yours. More reddish brown. My sister's hair was very red. My dad was also a redhead, lighter hair, but it was mostly gone when I first knew him. He started losing it at 21.

I now always sleep with the curtain over my head! It's just 2' away & w/o it, I'm
not in the right mental frame:). When away, it's a towel or similar. I need to remember ear plugs for certain occasions: shared lodgings...snoring ugh...

May, 2012 Nat'l Geo. has some nice photos of Iceland tho' hardly summer fun kind of shots. Maybe this is still available after a hard day on the course:).
