I have my control count "hidden" as well. It's so we can surprise everyone later when we take the lead ;)

well, I just posted mine. I think when people see it, they're more encouraged to also do it!

Also, what's with the arbitrary August start date? I think we should start a movement to start the control count on January 1 or something.

August (or more accurately, the date of WOC/JWOC) is a suitable albeit shifting start date since the motivation is to get a large amount of training and controls before the climax of the season. While January 1 would be more convenient, counting from the most recent world championship event is instructive.

Yeah, I think that's the idea, try to get a certain number of controls between the end of one JWOC/WOC/whatever and the start of another.

Agree with Alex,,,post the number and what you are shooting for so the whole (AP) world knows and you can't just abritrarily reduce your goal if it looks like you won't make it.

So I'm at 533, starting after WOC was over. I'm collecting, but don't have a goal for # of controls. Being here, I don't need the extra motivation to get out on maps (which I think the control count is good for). I should maybe start a spiked control count...

I think you're right Sam; the control count is just a rough way of keeping track of how much you get out and orienteer. You could keep track of days/times orienteering (probably pretty easy to see from you AP long), or Kilometers or whatever.

ya, I do hours. Because I figure when I'm lost and wandering in circles, I'm probably learning the most, if not enforcing good habits...
