NSAR's Memorial Shuttle Run, happening this Saturday, is a neat one... I thought I'd share the race format with you guys:
The park is on a sort of peninsula that offers a great forum for this unique idea. Racers will start at the tip of the peninsula and paddle up a ~4 km creek to the base of Porcupine Mountain. From there they run up the mountain and down through the park to the start to complete their first lap. Then they'll bike back through he park and down the mountain to the end of the creek where they paddle back to the start. Then they run... then bike... then paddle... etc.
To make things interesting, NSAR is setting up controls that you have to get on each lap. You don't know where they are until you're on that lap.
Basically you do as many laps as you can in 8 hrs.
At a glance it sounds as if it would get old doing the same route. Fortunately the moving controls keep it fresh! Plus, only the fastest racers will repeat a discipline in the same direction. The event always gets great reviews from pleasantly surprised racers.
Who came up with this amazing idea anyway NSAR?
