Discussion: camping at Sprague Brook park

The procedure to get a campsite at Sprague Brook is somewhat primitive. The phone number listed at [orienteering] event site produces only a taped message that recommends callers to use the website below:

There is no information of campsite availability, fees, forms of payment, procedure of payment. The phone number listed for "additional information" and "campsite availability" produces the same taped message.

Has anyone have a campsite reserved I can share with my tent, and can very eagerly share campsite expenses ? or any other suggestions ...

Next time, I send my camping permit with carrier pigeons and pergamen paper with a lacquer seal and King's inprint on it.

Sorry you are having trouble dealing with our local government. Imagine what we have to put up with day in and day out. (Actually, we like the parks department and we hope they like us.) Good luck in finding a spot.

I exchanged emails with the address erie_county_parks@erie.gov last week and had prompt responses. At least they're not paying someone to hand out info 24x7;-)

Electric sites at Sprague Brook Park are $22.00 per night (#1 thru #30) while non-electric sites are $15.00 per night (#31 thru #123). You may reserve only online or by telephone with payment due within 7 days. You do have the option of "showing up" and then being able to choose from what might be available at that time. A reservation will guarantee the site of your choice and is you are encouraged to reserve in advance. Thank you for your interest in Erie County Parks!

When I asked for the reservation, they let me know that a 2 night stay was minimum for a weekend.

I re-submitted my request, received a confirmation sort of number and could have paid online with a $2.50 convenience fee (or something - enough to anger me), and opted to mail a check.

I expect that when they get the check they will send me the confirmation.

I am assuming payment is by check using postal service. Given that there are only a handful of days left for me to follow such a paper and pen and delivery truck procedure, there is no way I can expect a reservation or confirmation number back in time.

The county system lost my web-based reservation (possibly twice). I just spoke to someone at (716) 858-8355 who was able to take my reservation (and credit card) by phone. As of this writing, there was one electric-hook-up site available for the weekend and "bunches" of non-electric sites.
