Yes, exactly, because it will be super clear if your pace slows. And good practice to keep that from happening.

Ken, this is not the first time you've posted a blank comment in Ali's log. Is this just like the guy who shows up to a conversation and stands there without saying anything? Because that's awkward for everyone involved...

Very fun to have company! And it does make it clear that when I'm not focused, I don't get very far on orienteering maps =)

Do you use a magnifier? If not, you could probably practise with it this way to see if it works for you. I'm very glad I've been using one all year in preparation for the long.

Not yet... but about to! Just installed it this eve on the compass actually, going to train with it over the weekend, hope I still have time to get used to it before WOC! Do you use it on everything now? Even sprints?

Honestly, I haven't run any sprints recently. I usually just leave it on and it's just pushed out of the way when I don't need it. I mostly use it to read ahead around the control circle and build a mental picture of what it will look like. Also, once I started leaving it on all the time, it started getting loose and just wouldn't tighten. Hugh taught me that it got a bit dirty in the threads and just needed to be cleaned out.
