So I lost my Adventure Racing virginity last weekend at FAC in Huntsville, as the Axis Gear Adventure Girl contest winner. Have to say, half way through, I wanted it to end. But the last KM put adrenaline through my veins like no other! I have been doing training for a half marathon in October, but I would like to find someone in the area that can guide me and train with me for my next AR race..not sure when, looking into ESAR and Rockstar, but I know that I need much better conditioning. Any strong motivators/coaches out there in the Barrie area? I need someone who is strong and who will push me! Thanks!

Welcome to our addiction, Scookie77! Funderstorm was the perfect person to introduce you to adventure racing. She has incredible passion for the sport and is great at sharing it with others. I don't know any trainers/coaches in the Barrie area but hopefully someone here has some ideas. Because adventure racing is a little different, you may not find someone local with specific expertise. One option is to work with a coach by e-mail, as Funderstorm does. You can and should still get involved with local groups (paddling, biking, running) or training partners for motivation but it may be helpful to have your training plan directed by someone who understands adventure racing - or at least off-road endurance sports.

Hey scookie77! Glad to see you found AP! Feel free to send me an email and I'll give you some ideas about ways you could approach training / coaching!

I am in the area and during the summer I take my hockey team out on two session a week with me - typically a speed session near the barrie sports complex off Nursery Road and a power session at the hydro hills in Midhurst. A couple of local AR racers have joined on occasion and if you like I could let you know when the session will be.

Not "pure" AR training but we do run some great trails and I might be able to give you some AR insights along the way.

I invite 3 Minor Midget hockey teams and some of their friends/parents come along on occasion... can range from 3 to 20+ runners on a given day... FYI Minor Midgets were born in 96.

That is a great offer! FB is one of the most experienced adventure racers around. He's no Minor Midget. :)

FB, thats great news, thanks for the offer, I appreciate it! Anything that can help me to keep moving forward would be great! I only hope I can keep up with the young ones! Can you tell me what you involve in the speed/power sessions? Cheers.
