I will be organising a weeklong training camp the week of June 12-19, 2011 in the area used for the 2009 U.S. Championships. This moraine terrain is an excellent place to improve your orienteering and map reading skills. If you're looking to get better, this is a great place to go.

In addition to the daily courses, there will be "classroom" sessions and individual instruction for those who want it.

I will post a more detailed schedule a few weeks before the event.

Registration is now open.

The Badger Orienteering Training Camp website is now up with more details about the camp. We will have 8 training sessions and 6 races over the course of the week.

This terrain is my favorite place to orienteer and I hope that many of you will take advantage of this great opportunity to have fun and get better at the same time.

There are discounts for early registration. Check out the website for the latest information.

The description of the camp is mouth-watering. Kevin, if you put up some map samples and advertised on WorldOfO, you might get some Europeans to come over.

I have added map samples to the website.

Looks somewhat similar to the karst terrain in Hungry for the World Masters 2011.

Cool.
Question from the first paragraph, which reads:
"It will be possible to do training the weekends of June 11, 12 and June 18, 19."

As the 11th and 19th are not scheduled days in the payment schedule, is this independent training outside of the camp?

@expresso

The 11th and 19th are in the payment schedule as individual days or weekends(see lines 3, 4 and 5).

Yes, the 11th and 19th are "independent training" using courses that will have been set up for use during the week. You will be able to select from the exercises being used on monday and tuesday for the 11/12th weekend. You will be able to select from the exercises used on Friday and Thursday for the 18th and 19th.

This is a friendly reminder that there will be a week's worth of hardcore orienteering training is my favorite terrain, the site of the 2009 US Champs, in just a few weeks. If anyone is still interested in participating they should contact me through the link above.

It is possible to do the training on the weekends of june 11, 12 and/or 18, 19th, as well, or any combination of dates you choose. It is very flexible and will be a very fun time for any orienteer(other than beginners). You will improve your game with this one week of intense orienteer pleasure.

oooh, just found $139 RT tickets from Hartford to Milwaukee for making the first weekend a long weekend... (looks like that's the airport to aim for?)

It would be great to see more JWOC-bound juniors signed up for the camp. Has someone emailed the Junior team list with the details?

Ali, we flew to Milwaukee when the champs were there. I think it's about an hour's drive to the maps.

The high school JWOC kids will still be in school. Had thought about sending Andrew but the logistics get complicated since he's too young to rent a car and the JWOC trip itself is expnsive. But---$139 RT is about 1/3rd of what it was when I was looking. hmmmm

Bought a ticket, I'm definitely going! Carl, if Andrew might want to go, if he could get nearby Amherst, he could stay with me and then drive down to airport/fly together, I got the early-as-anythign flight Sat morning (Delta, through Detroit, 5.55 am) and then back Monday eve, leaving Milwaukee at 6.20pm, also through Detroit... anyone else? Looks like a blast!!! (And might be cheap flights from other airports too, if this is a ticket sweet spot for that weekend?)

If the only thing stopping someone from attending is getting from the airport to the event let me know and maybe something can be arranged. Same goes for camping gear. I can probably round up some of that stuff for a few people. Just contact me and I'll let you know if I can help.

The Milwaukee airport is a little over an hour away and has often had cheap airfares to the east coast. In the past there have been flights out of LaGuardia to Appleton that were cheap. I don't know if they still have cheap flights, though. Appleton is an hour north of the maps. It'll be hard to beat $139 to Milwaukee.

Ali, Andrew wants to go but I just want to make sure you are leaving June 11th and returning June 13th before I book the tickets. And, it's $300 from here so he'd opt for going with you from Hartford.
