congrats dude. I can't imagine that being an unexciting finish.
haha, congrats! Can't wait for the write-up.
nice :) were there any other options besides no.14
I cant see it
Fantastic! Welcome to the club!
Number 1?
15 was also good. 13 (my choice) alas was not. Other popular ones were 6 and 10, but seem not as good as 14 or 15.
Actually, after a quick look at my splits, I think 10 would have been about as good as 14, if not better, but I wanted to skip as late as possible and did not see any viable options after 14.
The best one, per z-man, was #1 with left route to the road on the way to #2 with very easy navigation into control circle.
Congrats dude!!!! US Champs next on the list?
I strongly disagree about 1. I don't think it saves more time than skipping 10 or 14, and it adds lots of climb, which is the last thing you want on this course.
And it looks like a really excellently set course.
Nice work.
Some very conservative routes there near the end: 18-19 there's a perfectly good hill to run straight down, and 19-20 you dropped 5 lines at least to hit the line of contour features, but had to climb them all back up again, when you should be able to hit the large cliff if you stay higher.
Great job Boris! 20 might have been an interesting skip, but it's hard to tell since the control descriptions are in the way.
Yes, those routes were both purposeful to minimize chances of mistakes, especially 19-20. The trail around to 19 was superfast, and the woods were not, so I am not sure I lost any time on that.
Sandra>>Thanks! I thought briefly about 20, but it did not fit my requirement of eliminating climb.
Awesome Boris! Looks like a good fun race. Cool having 2 #23s. 14 definitely looks a solid control to skip tactically.
very well done Boris ! welcome to the club !! as the other ND said..I'm sorry i missed this one
well done again after the write-up!
Do you think rosstopher made a big mistake telling you he had skipped the second?
Awesome Boris! Well done!!! :o)
Congrats! It's pretty cool that the finish was so close taking different skips and forks.
20 would have been a much better skip without the control descriptions in the way. Looking at another map, there is a trail that along the stream that would have made the run though the woods much nicer. Without knowing about that trail, the run along the west side of the stream wasn't any faster than the run from 19-20 would have been.
Congrats Boris. Enjoy the doorstop. Also makes a great mantle piece when orienteers are visiting but I don't suggest using it that way otherwise.
Your comment about 8 in a row for non American born runners surprised me but like you said its true.
There must have been a huge disturbance in the force back in 1994 when Anderson and Dunham tied for the win. Maybe it shouldn't have been allowed because since then (1995-2010) it looks like the race has only been won twice (Eddie and Ken) by an American born runner (ie., only 2 of the last 16 years).
And congrats from me too! Looks like a very interesting course, and challenging orienteering.
Well done Boris. Great to see this most excellent of all races still going strong! You may not have liked the comedy control on "Goat Peak", but surely it had to be done? (sorry about starting the foreign winner thing...)
