7-8? Looks dodgy - dodgy routegadgeting I hope? Your mapped route goes straight through a hedge??
Yep, definitely dodgy, I see now that I also went through the OOB but did not see it on the map or the ground at the time. On the ground I do not remember seeing anything that made me question my route so was the map right, I am sure it was gate or an open section? Mind you Simmo was very tough and ran through the Chapel or was it over the roof?
Fletch you didn't read my comments in RG. I went through the same unmapped 1.5m gap in the hedge that Richard did. I was heading for the mapped gap, but then I saw this one looked at the map, didn't see a green line because of the rain and because it was so thin. Hope your eyes work better when you get to our age. Richard, that wasn't the chapel, just a paved area marked out in a cross.
So you aren't Clark Kent then?
Actually it's a graveyard, but don't let that stop you. :)
I wasn't CK on Saturday - didn't wear my glasses because of the rain.
No simmo - I didn't look at comments on RG - had forgotten they even existed. As for not seeing things on the map, I have that trouble when I run faster than I can read the map - isn't that part of the game?
Spare a thought for my dad, who sees the stupid olive green and the stupid yellow with 30% orange (or whatever variation it is on yellow) as essentially the same colour and often has to just run and hope he doesn't hit uncrossable obstacles part way through an otherwise viable route choice :)
Maybe there is a problem with the Olive Green as OOB and a more obvious danger colour like Red or Cross hatch would give less chance for inadvertant mistakes on the run. I simply do not recall seeing the green line on the map or thinking I was crossing anything that might have been OOB so it was not until I was adding the RG that I thought there was a problem. I feel for Ian as that must just double at least the problem, why was he MIA on saturday he was due to run just in front of me but was a no show?
He volunteered to help look after my kiddies and decided that he didn't enjoy runnig in the rain enough to justify dragging the kids along and getting them all miserable in the rain just so we could both have a run.
So in the end he was nice enough to offer to look after them at home so I could race :)
More people should use the comments on RG. If I had to go around a sprint course at a pace at which I could read the map (especially with no glasses in the rain), I'd be doing a slow, slow walk.
Hedges should probably be mapped with the impassable vegetation symbol (dark green with a black screen, so its event darker than the normal dark green), with gaps where there any.
