Are they that much better that Stabilicers or YakTracks?

I've only seen (not worn) the stabilicers and wasn't impressed, and only tried yak-traks once. But a bunch of the guys I run with have run extensively in yak-traks and have abandoned them for the Kahtoola's. One issue a couple of them have had is slipping (not sliding on ice, but the spikes slipping around to the outside of the shoe instead of staying in one place) - but in both cases they had the large, where I suspect they probably should have the mediums. Running shoes are a lot different than hiking boots and it depends which fitting chart you go off of. Try them in the store with your intended shoes and make sure the rubber 'binding' isn't loose. I'm on the upper end of the medium range, but there's definitely room for at least another full shoe size in mine, at least with the Inov-8's - a bulkier shoe might be different.

hope that helps..

It's on my calendar. So, maybe. Most likely if there actually is some visible moonlight.

Day before the full moon - even if cloudy, its usually pretty bright out.

It will be if I follow behind you!

Phil, assuming you're referring to my new light - we generally don't use our lights on the moonlight run. Are you planning on coming down?

Maybe I'd come. I guess the tesla would kind of overpower the moonlight; lose that romantic aspect. But do you run on rooty and rocky single-track trails?

the single track is generally better than the wider trails. If we get any sort of thaw, the ATV's really carve some ruts in the wider trails - which of course are frozen up solid come midnight. But we've never had any mishaps in 20+ years of moonlighting - some years just come with more than a little bitchin and moanin....

At the moment though it looks like I may pass on the moonlight (passing my leadership role to some other club members) in order to do the Snowgaine up near Cortland. I want to do more 'gaining' this year, but so far the big 24 hour events all have conflicts for me - so Snowgaine might be as close as I get. Depends if I find a partner though.

Moonlight will happen whether I'm there or not though - so you should plan on it... Its generally 30-40 minutes worth of easy running - about 3 miles or so...

good to see you training consistently again...
