180 puts you in a pretty elite class; most runners I think are 160-170. As I've gotten older, I've fallen below 160 unless I'm doing a tempo run or at the track, where I might hit 170.

I figured I'd be most comfortable at a lower turnover too and that I'd be working hard to keep the legs turning at 180, but (assuming the metronome app is accurately timing) the 180 felt more natural than I was expecting. My first thought was to start it lower and increase as necessary, but at the last minute I decided to just set it to 180 and see how it felt... Mild surprise....

Note that I don't think I normally turn over quite that quickly if I'm not thinking about it - particularly in terrain or when fatigued - but if training myself to do that leads to more efficient running, fewer injuries and the like, then it seems to be a good goal to work on...

Indeed, quicker turnover means shorter stride to move at the same pace, and shorter stride means fewer injuries. If you have a naturally high turnover, that's great; if you don't, like me, it's very hard to change.
