What was it about the training week that made such a difference? More than just the fact that you went? Was it specific kinds of training, or just the weeklong training environment/attitude/resulting motivation? Do tell!
Actually it was pretty terrain specific. The dune maps were brutally unforgiving if you ever lost contact... so it was really important to check off every single feature along the way. the temptation is to run faster than you can pick off depressions, or to not check things off just because all that thinking makes your brain tired :)
The exercises that were best were lots of control picking. There was a course with 100 controls for instance. Also, night-o added just another fun layer of involvement, in that you had fewer visual cues to keep you on the line.
I bet I could dig up some of the maps and scan them in, if you wanted to see more of what we did.
And me! (better get scanning... =P)
ohh, and now I should follow through. So I'll try to get them up tomorrow... currently Boris has my last year's worth of maps so I'll need to dig through Sam's stash. But the scanning itself should be the work of a moment :)
You didn't give me any maps from Spain.
hmm, okay, that means the Spanish maps are in the "big box" of maps from all previous years. that makes it easier to find in theory :)
