They would come in handy, esp. for an urban/campus type course. We've used sawhorses, or 5ga. buckets (filled w/ sand or concrete for weight, and a hole for our PVC stands to go into). This way you won't have to compromise potentially good control locations. Just an idea...
Yeah, i had started thinking about those, and have a query to our equipment guy as to whether there are any available. I have some concerns about them walking away, or getting vandalized (as for the controls too). I hadn't thought of the bucket approach. Aren't they a pain to move around?
It is indeed a pain to move around, which hopefully serves as deterrent for those vandals. Presumably, you'll only need a couple of these (since all the other ones can be hung w/o a stand). Plus the campus/urban setting allows you to drive fairly close to the control location, so that moving these things won't be as painful.
This isn't a driveable area - they don't like driving in the pedestrian area of campus. I will just use a wheelbarrow.... :-)
Ah, that does create more of a problem. Wheelbrarrow would certainly work though :)
I should look at some sprint photos from events around the world, and see what others use as control stands in urban settings.
Our equipment manager handed off a dozen or more aluminum stands - light and convenient! Problem solved.
Cool! Aluminium stands are really handy, makes the tasks of setting & collecting much more easier.
