Hey Jimbo. Liggo here. What's the story with the Benigo ToDay. Do we need to pre-enter ?

Uncle JiM:
Yes, pre entry, info will be in this weeks E Bulletin.
Feb 1, 2009 4:44 AM #
007:
can you email it to me? nobody in my house is a member of Orienteering Victoria so we don't get E bulletins.
Feb 1, 2009 5:21 AM #
TheInvisibleLog:
I thought we were test running the WMOC entry system that Matt Schepisi is developing?
Feb 1, 2009 6:25 AM #
Uncle JiM:
Will do, you will have to rectifier that

We are, the information on were to go, and what to do, will be in this weeks E Bulletin.
Feb 2, 2009 3:21 AM #
Bruce:
The Bendigo ToDay will also be the first of the 2009 Southern Cross Series - Vic Metro vs Vic Country vs Interstate Raiders.

Once entries are in, we'll confirm the teams with team captains.

Which of you non Orienteering Victoria members wants to be captain of the Interstate Raiders? Perhaps Liggo?
Feb 2, 2009 4:50 AM #
TheInvisibleLog:
Can I do a Sheedy and complain that they will be too strong (the raiders that is).
Feb 2, 2009 5:26 AM #
jennycas:
How many Interstate Raiders do you need? I could possibly rustle up a Carload of Croweaters :)
Feb 2, 2009 8:46 AM #
TheInvisibleLog:
I think the Vics will be eating crow. Is this 'state of origin'. ie is Bruce a raider? Hanny? Liggo? Vanessa? Robby coming? Or is it state of residence?
Feb 2, 2009 11:58 PM #
Bruce:
Vic Metro = Orienteering Victoria member residing in the Melbourne Metro area for at least 6 months of the year.
Vic Country = Orienteering Victoria member residing outside the Melbourne Metro area for at least 6 months of the year.
Interstate Raider = Runner from any other NOL team.

Further details including the full program of races here.

Jenny, each team consists of a minimum of 4 M21, 1 W21, 1 M20 and 1 W20. Interstate Raiders will have the seniors covered with Kerrin, Reuben, Liggo, Rob, Hanny and Vanessa. It would be great if you can bring some juniors over to some races. I expect that Belinda and Ian Lawford may pop back to Victoria for some races too.

There may be some prizes from sponsors R4YL and High5 Sports Nutrition too.

TheInvisibleLog:
My money is on the raiders if they turn up.
I take it the second half of the year is devoted to the national carnival lead up?
Feb 3, 2009 9:55 AM #
Clara:
Then I may have to skip a few weeks of uni so I can scrape back in to Country...
Feb 3, 2009 10:31 AM #
Uncle JiM:
If it's 6 months, you could run for both (-:
Feb 3, 2009 10:34 AM #
Clara:
By my calculations...2x12 week semesters = 24 weeks, possible max of 6 week exam periods = 30 weeks which is already over 6 months in Melbourne. But if I have all my exams in the first week both semesters, then it's 26 weeks and exactly 6 months in Melbs and 6 in Benders.
Feb 3, 2009 10:37 AM #
Uncle JiM:
If Uni allows you to do it, Bruce may have to change the rules
Feb 3, 2009 10:25 PM #
Bruce:
By my calculations, Vic Country won't need any help from Clara.

Opening market:
$2.15 Vic Country
$2.65 Interstate Raiders
$4.00 Vic Metro
Feb 4, 2009 2:14 AM #
TheInvisibleLog:
I'm waiting for Liggo's odds.
Any chance I can win some points a la prez_retired in the Bendigo 2Day?
Feb 4, 2009 4:38 AM #
Bruce:
Speak to Toph - the Vic Country team captain - to see if you can get a spot in the team. Perhaps we can allow 50+ men and 45+ women to be substitutes for any vacant M20 and W20 spots?
Feb 8, 2009 1:04 AM #
liggo:
Thanks for the email Jimbo. Just a question - who is this Troy DeHaas guy that you mention ? Did he used to be an orienteer ? Just remind me how many state or national titles he currently holds.
Feb 8, 2009 1:19 AM #
Uncle JiM:
Going on last years results, he won one less State title than Paul Liggins

phatmax:
Does Blair have a long long range forecast yet?
Feb 15, 2009 9:23 AM #
blairtrewin:
Looks warmish but not excessively windy - little fire ban risk. Probably mid/upper 20s Saturday, near 30 Sunday.
Feb 16, 2009 2:45 AM #
jennycas:
Hey Jim, will I survive the 10km on Sunday or should I do the 6k like a sane person? It's not like I'll be needed for Raiders points anyway :)
Feb 16, 2009 1:42 PM #
Uncle JiM:
Your the only one who will know if you can do 10k, looking at how you have been training, and your long runs, I have no doubt you can handle the distance, its whether you would enjoy the race more, if you did the 6k. Fern and Laurina are doing 6, while Aislinn and Hanny are doing 10
Feb 16, 2009 9:46 PM #
Bruce:
The suggestion is for Men, Women and Junior Men to run A, and for Junior Women to run B, unless all of the women decide that they would rather run B.

I would say Hanny would probably be in the Raiders' mens team.
I don't know whether Vanessa (Raiders), or Kathryn (Country) will enter. It's up to the team captain (Simon), but Aislinn or Jasmine will probably represent Metro.

Are Fern and Laurina juinor or senior this year?
Feb 16, 2009 10:07 PM #
Uncle JiM:
Laurina is in her 1st year of senior's, Fern is a senior, or as I like to refer to them, open. Senior is for those who are even older than me :)

Asked Toph the other day, whether we had a full team, he was going to check it out, it may come down to which Captain does there job best, dont know who I will have my money on, Liggo, Simon or Toph?
Feb 16, 2009 10:17 PM #
jennycas:
Fern is a Sledger for now, Vanessa won't be there cos she has a geology camp. 10k is not a hassle for me but driving 6 hours afterwards and then trying to get out of the car could be (ha ha). Does anyone want to go for a womble around Kooyoora Sunday afternoon?
Feb 16, 2009 10:57 PM #
blairtrewin:
Smiths Reef is a very fast area - I would expect the winning time for 10k to be near or under 50 - so it's not as 'long' a 10k as one might expect.

Forecast looks a bit more northerly than it was a couple of days ago but I still think a fire ban is unlikely - maybe a 20% chance.
Feb 16, 2009 11:23 PM #
TheInvisibleLog:
I'm a scratching. More fencing up north.
Feb 20, 2009 9:48 AM #
Bruce:
Latest market:
$2.40 Vic Country
$2.40 Interstate Raiders
$4.00 Vic Metro

Late entries for Saturday...
One for Vic Country and one for International raiders.

Is there an echo in here?
Feb 24, 2009 4:58 AM #
TheInvisibleLog:
Little Sir Echo
Feb 24, 2009 11:33 PM #
Bruce:
Did anyone see the odds on 4th Feb:
$2.15 Vic Country
$2.65 Interstate Raiders
$4.00 Vic Metro

and the point score after 2 races:
32 Vic Country
23 Interstate Raiders
22 Vic Metro
