The Hudson Highlander 2008 is being launched as a retro race. Rumors say, that there will be a full version and a lite version of this year's Highlanders to reduce the number of people being swallowed by the extremely exquisite but also demanding course.

More details about race & registration will follow soon, in the mean time you can start guessing about the where what and hows.

Can you confirm the 'when'? I've been holding off booking tickets until more information than the 'hold-the-date' notice on the HVO calendar shows up. Can I assume Oct 5 at 10am-ish?

Does retro mean on old maps? I have only done this race once but that year wasn't on WOC maps. Will it be on at least one WOC map?

retro highlander? Hmm sounds like 'Big Country' will be performing.

WOC Men's Classic course being the short version?

There are WOC maps in play, but not necessarily in the original version.

The race is on October 5, start time probably 9 AM.

It will not be a 50ties retro with finned cadillacs, diners and drive-ins.

I don't think cadillacs or drive-ins would be of much interest in the highlander, but a nice diner stop offering bacon and eggs and coffee might be a pleasant way to start the last loop.

It would even be retro... several Highlanders have had the fourth loop start (essentially) at the finish. I even remember being shocked at my first one to see a fellow competitor eating a hamburger as I tried to run down Seven Lakes drive before heading back into the woods.

There is a strategy to have the fourth loop starting and ending at the finish. We don't have to bring the drop outs back to the finish and completely exhausted people can get (almost) dinerlike food before the last loop.
Maybe the retro aspect means wearing the cool 70ties style Puma running shoes without any good traction in the wood.

Or maybe retro means populating the race with people who ran in the first ever highlander.

Or JJ wearing his ancient pure cotton t-shirts...

My guess is that retro means all four loops on the Hogencamp map, like five years ago.

Or just run the first version....again.
