I wanted to draw your attention to an interesting new adventure race format that is uniquely suited to the talents of navigators and orienteerers - the RockstAR adventure race at the Bark Lake Leadership Centre in Haliburton on July 12. The first 2-3 hours will be a marked mountain bike course, then for the remainder of the 8-hour race time, teams will use a map to navigate to checkpoints using a combination of canoeing and trekking.

It's rogaine-style, meaning that the checkpoints are worth different point values, and you can visit as many or as few of the optional checkpoints as you'd like. If you're tired after 6 hours, you can quit and hang out by the lake. It all finishes up with a post-race party on the beach with dinner and tunes.

Teams of two or three can participate, and you can either rent a canoe or bring one of your own. The race runs from noon till 8 p.m., so teams from the GTA could do this as a long day trip if necessary to squeeze in other commitments - although it would be more relaxing to stay there the night after the race.

All the info is here: http://www.racetherockstar.com

Also an Early Bird Deadline Exists on July 3rd, so if you are thinking about entering do it now!

Race Hard, Rock Hard!

I did that race last year and definitely reccomend it. It is well organized and lots of fun. The rogaine style adventure race was new to our team but that's what we ended up liking the best about that race.
