[edited] The #3 control on Saturday's green course is right next to a pair of dot knolls on a hill, a control location that I had a great of difficulty with on an Orange course some 30 years ago. I hope I would do better today. Thanks for the memories. :-D

Green #3 - Just north of the line to start, between the marshes skirting N edge of smaller marsh, then up hill skirting small open area on the south side, more or less on the line or slightly south, cross reentrant and attack down spur SW of control. Brief pause entering the circle to sort out the contour details within the circle (these eyes can't do that at a run anymore) and then down into the correct reeentrant. Not even close to Kristen's time, but fairly clean. Plus I was still in slow & cautious mode, maintaining map contact, having gotten into trouble on Big Island in the past.

Conditions were really dry this year. That lake was probably all dried up.

Event Recap is now posted on the Orienteering USA website. Result links, photos and of course, Bridget's most excellent blog post!!

Speaking of most excellent I looked at the Results particularly to see how Etienne Jacques had done. He and his brother Adam are pictured on the O-USA page about the event. They are both good orienteers but Etienne is EXCEPTIONAL. I think he is 12, perhaps 13 years old.
On the weekend ran two Yellow and two Green courses. Two wins and nothing worse than a second fastest time by less than a minute among all the competitors on the four courses.
I predicted last year (after he zipped past me in one Ottawa race) he will be Canada's next Emily Kemp. And he is still on track to fulfill my prediction.

I bet Etienne also has a wicked 3 point shot as his father was a serious bball player.

Southeast to start, fast to the trail, then off the trail just after the swamp, climbing only a contour to the saddle. Just north of the small pond/marsh (checking it off), then along the next marsh, and down the south side of the reentrant, leaning right to the spur near the circle. Stopped at the edge of the circle, like Clint said.

Big lake doesn't help with precision when you are along the same big lake for 3 controls in a row, though it was useful as a rough guide (as in, "Am I about the right distance from the lake?").

3 and 4 were, for me, the hardest controls on the course. Though, of course, I messed up #1!
