I'm not seeing any info on this. Any chance we'll get some idea before we head to the start?

Curious why this info is nowhere on the ROC site, nor was it sent to competitors.

NOT EVERYONE FOLLOWS ATTACKPOINT.
(Sorry for shouting; I know they should, but they don't. ;-) )

Janet did you not get an email from EventReg yesterday morning? I received an email 8:30 am with links to google doc meet notes that include course lengths.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ZpUBhpYfLwLJj-...
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1lVKY8FLOYcyvPZ...

Wasn't there a similar complaint about some people not getting the EventReg emails for another meet recently?

If you clicked on the links yesterday when the meet notes were emailed out, the course lengths were not there. They have now been added.

Ditto Nancy. I don't think they were added until the question was asked.

You're welcome :-).

I'm not participating but would like to point out that I never get the emails from EventReg, including after registering. It has been suggested that it is because Apple is blocking EventReg emails to ".me" accounts. I have heard from others with ".me" accounts that they don't get them, either.

It hasn't mattered to me since I always had admin access to EventReg for the events in question, but I'll probably use my wife's gmail address in future.

Videlin knows about it but hasn't been able to figure out what the problem is.

In any event, it is easy for the Registrar to pull out the ".me" accounts and bcc them in an email separately.

This problem affects several different email providers, unfortunately. I don't receive them on my hotmail account, and I heard from someone else who doesn't get them on their juno account.

Yes, I have a few other email addresses, but I don't check them with any regularity, so even using one of those might result in not receiving the info when we sometimes register for events months in advance.

I really think the eventreg gurus need to figure out why this is happening and make changes accordingly. I don't have this issue with emails from any other source.

At one point I WAS receiving them, so at some point something changed. And whatever it was, it caused several unrelated email providers to all block the incoming messages. Maybe something as simple as changing what domain/address the emails come from could fix the issue? I still receive other OUSA emails related to things like membership renewal.

When the messaging feature was added to EventReg, it was set up to send individual e-mails out at 2 second intervals. This was done to avoid being marked as spam due to very long recipient lists (To, CC, and/or BCC).

The feature was added by the original EventReg developer, Kent Shaw, about 5-8 years ago. Since then it is likely that spam detection, and mail blocking algorithms have evolved considerably, and the assumptions made at the time are no longer valid.

Here's a piece of advice from a veteran registrar...
If you register for an event, and do not receive a confirmation e-mail within, say, 5 minutes, let the event registrar know. If you include an alternate e-mail address, they could replace the original address with it, and test it by resending the confirmation (just to you).

I could just register with a different address too, but in either case if there are additional emails beyond the initial confirmation, I might never notice those since I don't typically check the other addresses. And I'm not going through the giant pain of changing my email address which has been established for 24 years. I guess I could maybe set up some kind of forwarding rule... I wonder if that would work or if the emails would still disappear. (They aren't going into a spam folder... they entirely never arrive.) And since multiple providers seem to be affected, what if my other addresses don't work either?

But that still leaves numerous other people with this issue, some probably not even realizing it. And it doesn't address the fact that new people may register for events and then not receive any info and not be aware that they should be.

With this being a known issue, eventreg emails shouldn't be the sole source for a piece of information.... post it on the event page too.

The event page should be a font of information so that anyone can read all they would need to know there (whether they do so or not is then their choice, not the whim of a mail distribution system).

What do you do if the person who updates the club website is not a registrar, or not available when event staff have the make last-minute updates? Time-sensitive information should be pushed, anyway. Competitors should not have to constantly return to a website they have already read to pull information, unless there is a section that has been marked to be updated at a future time.

We all have our communication preferences. One of the many things I appreciate about Clinton is his ability to use multiple avenues to get the word out. Not all clubs will be able to replicate his access to multiple platforms, though.

Perhaps we should look at a “confirm your email” function for EventReg, much like websites that expect to communicate updates require before registration?

But basic information like course lengths should be on the website. Late-breaking updates are a separate matter.

True.
(Nice attempt to refocus the thread…will it succeed?)

I have a suspicion that the communication doesn't work the other way either. I have 'communicated' with registrars a couple of times in the last year via the EventReg web form and never got any kind of notification or response. Could be that EventReg isn't sending _them_ messages either.

@feet: Did you ask a question requiring a response?

In any event, it is easy for the Registrar to pull out the ".me" accounts and bcc them in an email separately.

Umm, not really...
There is no "Sent" folder, and registrars do not automatically get a copy of emails sent through EventReg, which they could forward to do this. On the other hand, some blasts send messages specific to each registrant, eg, start times; practically speaking, only EventReg can send those.
