The schedule for the next edition of the Southwest Spring Week is coming together! This is what we have penciled in as of today, September 13th, and everything is subject to change. I don't expect too many big changes, though!

This does sound exciting. Are any of these races to be NREs?

Improv! Excellent!

Cristina:
There are no plans to have any NREs at this time.

With any luck, the Canada/USA border may be open........

Will the improv include a skit involving orienteering?

sounds fun...

By the time I get to Phoenix ... I'll be tired!

But pleasantly so.

@Canadian, if we knew what they were going to do then it wouldn't be very improvisational!

More seriously, the format is not nailed down but they will likely do something with audience input/participation, so if the audience is entirely orienteers you can expect some funny orienteering-adjacent outcomes!

upnorthguy, the border has never been closed for Canadians flying to Arizona (although my neighbours across the road, who otherwise spend the winters at their house in Arizona, decided not to go last winter because of Arizona's high Covid numbers). It's only closed if you were to want to drive there.

Question for those who think they'll attend the mid-week portion of SWSW: if we offered a 4-hour mini-rogaine option on Wednesday would you do it? Or should we stick to 2-hours?
Sep 18, 2021 8:20 PM #
cmpbllv:
We'd do either option.

GlenT:
With orienteering every day, two hours would probably be enough.

SKuestner:
4 hours! Longer is better!

:)

I figured the Venn diagram of people who aren't as interested in sprinting on Thursday and who are interested in 4-hour outings is close to a circle, so having a 4-hour option on Wednesday with the potential for a day off (or easy sprint jog) the next day might make sense. The course setter is more than happy to set something appropriate for 4-hours. Don't worry, we'll definitely have a 2-hour category, too!

I might do 4 if offered, it depends how tiring the earlier days are. Two days at Catalina can really beat up the feet; I love the Greaterville / Route 83 terrain. Hoping I can get out for the full week.
