...was one of the places I was hoping to get to this summer but didn't (maybe later in the year?). Is the road as scary as its reputation suggests?
Haven't been down the road to McKillop's Bridge for some time, but back in the day it seemed pretty tame. If you can drive into Suggan Buggan you could drive down to the Snowy. Just take it slowly around blind corners. But the rain events in the last decade may have changed that.
The walk down the Devils Backbone into the Gorge is not to be missed. I have abseiled into the gorge along the Little River. The abseils generally had a soft (ie wet) landing, so not too worrisome. The scariest part was the proliferation of Tiger Snakes sunning on every second rock. That may not be an issue this late in autumn.
We are in the tentative planning stages of a search for Stradbroke Chasm. No-one seems to have been in there for a very long time if the bushwalking blogs are to believed.
We didn't go very far along the road...the rock scrambling was scarier!
No snake sightings this week.
The scary part of driving the Suggan Buggan road late at night, when you're on your own, is having two blokes in camouflage gear carrying guns jump out in front of your car, deliverance-style........ and politely request a lift, as they were deer hunters who had been 'lost in the bush for days'. Luckily the car was full (of skis etc) and l only had 2 seats at that time. I said l only had room for one person, and they said 'never mind' and they would wait for the next car.
Yikes! Glad we didn't have any of those encounters either!!!
When you say Little River, I think of the pub just down the road from the You Yangs :)
Its a "little" more serious than than that.
