It’s great to read about members of the O community getting their shots! Sounds like you and Gail are matched to my parents-my dad gets his second on Monday and my mom got her first on Friday. They’ve both had good experiences at the mass vaccination site at Gillette Stadium but I don’t know that they would have been able to get the appointments without computer help. As you say, the sites are improving and the state is learning but it’s been a bit rocky here and there.

There's guy here in Sunderland, selectman for a long time, been involved in setting up vaccination clinics for more than a decade, does a lot to address problems of seniors in town. I asked him a couple of days ago what we could do to get our teachers vaccinated in the near future without all the appointment problems.

From him --

"It’s interesting that you mentioned teacher and staff vaccinations, yesterday I had a lengthy conversation with Linda Dunleavy the executive administrator of FRCOG (Franklin County Council of Governments) about that and the importance of getting teachers and staff vaccinated ASAP.

The FRCOG knows that it is a very important issue and they, we, us are all trying to get a plan together to address that issue. It may not be easy but very dedicated people are trying to make that happen but everyone who has talked to the administration (governor’s office) says what is in place right now is a s**t show (direct quote from three separate sources)."

I've heard good reports about the process here in Kansas.

Maybe 10 years ago, the local health and fire departments ran some of the local flu shot clinics as a way of practicing for a pandemic. It was much lower demand, but they set up a drive through system and practiced the various aspects of how to get it to work best when they would need to handle a bigger crowd. I don't now if that's common, but it seemed pretty smart at the time. I like to think that practice session helped them do better this year.

Mom and Don got their first shots and will get the second one on the 19th, a day before her 85th birthday. So we're postponing festivities until the next weekend, just in case they have adverse reactions. The shots went fine, but it took my sister to navigate the online sign-up process. And I keep hearing that WV is one of the better states, so that's a little scary.
