I’m sure I have dead butt syndrome, but the discomfort generally improves after a week or so of rowing. I’ve certainly had it before. Don’t need a pad, just need to get the muscles adapted.
I use that pad, free from the CRASH-B's a few years ago. Judy doesn't use it.
